Longer days with Total
AWANGO BY TOTAL is a project which includes, among other things, small light bulbs and mini systems powered by solar energy.
These products were created for countries where access to energy remains uncertain (Africa, Asia, the Caribbean ...). It is a more economical, accessible, ecological, healthier and lasting energy solution. Through AWANGO BY TOTAL, we intend to brighten local community life for a longer amount of time, avoid more hazardous energy sources (ex: candles lit during sleeping hours), and contribute to environmental protection (ex: no use of kerosene lamps). We have already started to market those solutions in other parts of the world and results have been conclusive and stimulating. In May 2015, 1 million of lamps were sold, which means 5 million people with longer and brighter days.
Better and More energy in Angola
The access to energy is a priority and sensitive matter in some African countries.
Today, Angola, which represents one of the icons of the African continent’s development and growth, has achieved the goals established internationally in the most different areas: health, education, etc. In Angola, Total, like in the rest of the world, developed an ambitious and challenging corporate social responsibility policy; therefore, it launched the project AWANGO BY TOTAL. On July 3, 2015, Total in Angola signed an agreement with the NOC, Sonangol, to implement the AWANGO BY TOTAL project to expand access to solar energy for the most unprivileged. AWANGO BY TOTAL in Angola is still in its initial phase: Total and Sonangol are joining efforts to identify, define and select a network of partners for the distribution and marketing of the lamps.
